Urgent Care

Policy

GPDocs Model Practice is an accredited urgent care facility. We align our services with the Royal New Zealand College of Urgent Care Urgent Care Standard 2015 to provide safe, quality urgent care services that meet patient needs.

We consider any legislative requirements, professional codes, and guidelines that might affect the delivery of our service. We follow the four parts of the Standard as outlined below.

Service provision

We enable access to the clinic to meet the need of the community by:

• providing walk-in urgent care services from 8 am – 8 pm every day, including public holidays
• triaging patients on arrival, and seeing them according to clinical need.

Facilities and environment

To meet the medical and operational requirements and staffing levels that support urgent care, we:

• have an accessible X-ray facility open from 8 am – 8 pm every day, including public holidays
• employ an urgent care trained and accredited medical director, Dr XXX (FRNZCGP, FRNZCUC), who is responsible for all urgent care clinical management
• hold all essential medications/equipment.
• maintain adequate and safe urgent care facilities, in a fit-for-purpose environment
• review rosters regularly to ensure safe staffing levels at all times.

Consumer rights

To ensure patients receive services in accordance with their rights under the Code of Health and Disability Services Consumers' Rights, we:

• provide access to an effective complaints management system
• work towards achieving health equity for Māori patients and other diverse patient groups
• take account of our patients' cultural values and beliefs.

Organisational management

We follow processes to ensure that quality and risks are measured and managed by:

• carrying out audits and patient surveys to monitor and improve our systems, processes, and services
• putting adequate measures in place to keep patient information safe and confidential, according to our obligations under the Privacy Act and the Health Information Privacy Code
• ensuring all clinical staff:
  • are appropriately trained
  • have up-to-date credentials that confirm their training, and that they are suitably qualified to work within their scope of practice
  • undergo an appropriate induction and orientation.
