Triage Audits
At least six monthly, the nursing team leader audits:
- a minimum sample of 50 triaged patients
- an explanation of any occasions where triage wasn't considered appropriate
- triage decisions, categorisation, and wait times at different stages of the patient's visit
- the percentage of patients triaged within target time frames for their category.
We use the Australian College for Emergency Medicine's Performance Indicator Thresholds as our benchmarks for auditing.
If an audit identifies any issues:
- the clinical team identify any changes required and plan corrective action
- the frequency of audits may be increased.
