Non-funded/Non-scheduled Vaccinations

non funded, non scheduled

Appointments

Non-funded and non-scheduled vaccinations, including travel vaccines, are administered by a nurse under a clinician's prescription or standing order.

Non-funded/Non-scheduled vaccinations procedure

  1. The clinician and/or nurse consults with the patient and determines the vaccine(s) required. If the patient is planning to travel, the doctor/nurse also provides additional travel health-related information and advice.
  2. The nurse provides further information about the vaccines including:
    • cost and whether this must be paid before the vaccines are administered
    • number of doses and interval between doses (significant where travel is involved)
    • possible side effects.
  3. If the patient needs additional doses, advise them when the next dose is due, add a recall to the PMS, and advise that they'll receive a reminder.
  4. Check the availability of the vaccine – some are held on site but others need to be ordered.
  5. The vaccine will need to be prescribed if no standing order is in place.
  6. The patient must provide written consent before the vaccination. Document this in the PMS.

Charges for vaccines

Vaccines that need to be ordered in, including occupational vaccines, must be paid for in advance. Charges may include freight cost.

General considerations

Occupational vaccines for businesses

If a workplace offers vaccinations to staff members, the practice manager agrees a plan and the cost.

The time frame for payment for the entire course is agreed with the workplace at the outset, including any consultations or blood tests needed in addition to the cost of the vaccinations.
