Sedation and Anaesthesia

Policy

At our practice, procedures are carried out using local anaesthetic only. We do not sedate patients.

Any side-effects or risks from the anaesthetic are explained to the patient before they give consent. Details of any anaesthesia used are included in the patient notes in Medtech

Patients who need sedation for a procedure are referred to a day-stay facility so they can be properly monitored.

Types of anaesthesia

GPDocs Model Practice uses local anaesthetic appropriate for the lesion. We only use regional blocks where direct infiltration of local anaesthetic is not suitable

We may also use adrenaline if appropriate.
